About Us

STEP is a group of researchers in the Department of Logistics at Stellenbosch University. It developed from a concern about the declining quality of basic education within the South African system, and a special concern for the growing inequality in academic opportunities.

STEP researchers use simulation modelling and specifically the paradigms of system dynamics and agent-based modelling to construct analyses by means of a systems thinking approach. The group consists of full-time researchers and research students, mostly but not exclusively enrolled for postgraduate programmes within the Department of Logistics at Stellenbosch University.

Funding for STEP comes from a variety of sources. Funds obtained from the National Research Foundation are supplemented through research consultancies for various institutions, and proposals for collaboration are always welcomed. A list of some recent projects can be found on this website.

With thanks to our collaborators
